OPENFORMAT and Fast Fashion, a (Web3) Love Story…

As we get nearer to officially launching OPENFORMAT we’re partnering with startups, chains and (digital) agencies to ensure that we’re not only bringing the functionality that is required for building decentralised applications, we’re also focusing on simplicity and ease of use.

One of our first public test use cases goes live this week focused on graduate fashion week in London and an exclusive set of digital fashion collectibles that have been designed by three fashion graduates, the winners of a competition run by UNTAGGED, a pioneering fashion resale iOS app which is a little like Etsy meets Duolingo… (See the press release at the end of this post for full details.)

For the team at OPENFORMAT this first public release has been about ensuring that the audience, young smart creatives who may not have much experience of NFT’s, can access and own the designs and associated content without any hassle or learning new things.

The idea of a “wallet” is suggested, like a profile, and created with a simple email “magic link” - there’s no need for a password. At any time this “wallet” can be exported into a Web3 wallet for full portability and potentially resale. Speaking of which while the digital garments are free (there’s only 100 of each though), should there be any resale activity the artist will always get a 10% royalty in perpetuity from any further sales.

Of course any Web3 natives can just connect their wallet and continue as only they know how 😉

The beauty of OPENFORMAT here is that UNTAGGED can introduce other small applications that coexist with this one, utilising the same users, the same authentication system (Badges), the same engagement system (XP), and when this application dies (which of course it will, it’s a campaign really), none of the data is lost and the assets are still useful in the wider UNTAGGED ecosystem. It’s so much easier to maintain multiple small apps than one large monolith application.

A quick mention about XP - OPENFORMAT uses the notion of XP in the same way that many video games do - a progression system for the user - however the added benefit is that we use it for tracking engagement transparently which means that we don’t need cookies to facilitate metrics… More to come on this in another post…

We’ll be open sourcing a vanilla version of this “tiny application” as a template in due course so that anyone can create something similar. We’ll keep you updated.
